Visible Measures Awarded Patent for Measuring Online Video Viewing Time

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Boston, MA -- Visible Measures, the analytics and advertising platform for social video, today announced that it has recently been issued its second United States patent. U.S. Patent No. 7,930,391, based on an application filed in 2008, covers the Visible Measures methodology for determining viewing time of an online video through calculating the amount of time a user spends on a Web page containing an embedded video. This unique approach enables Visible Measures to provide online video publishers and advertisers visibility into the amount of time audiences spend with their video content and advertisements.

"Visible Measures has always strived to be at the forefront of video analytics and to provide our clients with not only the most accurate performance measurement available, but also the most actionable," said Visible Measures founder and CEO Brian Shin. "We will continue pushing the boundaries of collecting social video data to ensure that we provide our clients with industry-leading analytics and paid, owned, and Earned Media performance measurement."

The patent for measuring time spent viewing an online video is the second fully issued patent for Visible Measures, with many more patents pending. Visible Measures' first patent, issued in 2008, covers a service architecture for distributed capture and aggregation of dynamic application usage information on the Internet. Both patents were filed for the Visible Measures platform, which tracks the performance of nearly 400 million unique videos collected across hundreds of video sites across the Web, with over five years of historical data. This patented platform covers over 300 million unique viewers each month. For context, the top three video properties on comScore's July 2011 U.S. Online Video Rankings -- Google (including YouTube), VEVO, and Facebook -- saw a combined 271,575 million unique video viewers in July 2011.
