Firm Expands IP Litigation Practice with Addition of Two New Partners
New York, NY -- In a significant boost to its growing intellectual property practice and New York presence, King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today the addition of two new prominent partners: Scott T. Weingaertner and Robert A. Whitman. Their arrival marks seven new IP partners in the New York office and twelve new IP partners in the firm since September 2006.
Weingaertner joins King & Spalding from White & Case and Whitman from Goodwin Proctor.
"The addition of these talented attorneys will greatly expand the depth of intellectual property services that we provide to our clients from our New York office and across the firm," said Robert Perry, managing partner of the New York office. "Their extensive patent litigation and counseling experience will add considerable strength to our already strong capabilities in those areas."
Weingaertner focuses on intellectual property litigation and counseling with particular experience handling disputes regarding patent infringement, licenses and employee trade secret misappropriation, as well as patent interferences and ex parte procedures before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is well versed in the technology areas of semiconductors and other electronics, computer software, medical and other mechanical devices, and financial services. He earned S.B. and S.M. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Whitman has more than 15 years of patent litigation experience across a broad spectrum of technologies, including software, computer hardware, semiconductor design and fabrication, medical devices, electronic components, networking, data and voice communications and video processing. Whitman’s practice also includes licensing, opinion work and the acquisition and management of intellectual property rights. He received a B.S.E.E. from Rutgers University, and a J.D. from Seton Hall University.
"King & Spalding has assembled one of the premiere intellectual property litigation groups in the country," said Robert Whitman. "Having worked with many of the firm’s lawyers before, I am familiar with King & Spalding’s distinguished IP team, and I am excited to be part of that team now."
King & Spalding’s New York IP team was established in 2001 with a strong focus on domestic and international trademark protection and litigation, and has grown to 35 lawyers and patent agents handling a wide variety of IP matters. The firm’s IP practice overall now numbers over 100 lawyers and patent agents.
King & Spalding’s New York office employs 130 attorneys practicing in a variety of areas including banking, business litigation, corporate finance, energy, financial restructuring, intellectual property, Islamic finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, tax and real estate, among others.
