Panel Arbitrates Domain Name Disputes around the World

Chicago-based law firm Much Shelist announced today that Evan D. Brown, Principal in the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology practice group, has been named to the Domain Name Dispute Panel by the prestigious World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In this role, Brown will adjudicate on domain name disputes under the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center’s Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the WIPO Center has resolved more than 29,000 disputes in 177 countries involving some 54,000 domain names. The panelist roster includes nearly 500 individuals from more than 50 countries. In addition to its domain name dispute resolution activities, the WIPO Center also administers cases concerning a broad range of concerns, including patent licensing and infringement, IT purchase and license agreements, and trademark licensing and co-existence agreements.

“We are very pleased that Evan has been named a WIPO Center panelist, and the appointment underscores his judgment and experience in trademark, e-commerce, domain name and Internet law,” said Adam K. Sacharoff, chair of Much Shelist’s Intellectual Property & Technology practice group. “Without first-rate panelists like Evan, the WIPO Center would never have achieved the globally preeminent position it enjoys today among domain name dispute resolution service providers.”

Brown advises companies of all sizes on matters pertaining to technology, intellectual property and privacy. His practice covers a wide range of related issues, such as licensing, online services, cloud-based technology, data security, social media, copyright and trademark protection and advertising. Brown has extensive experience drafting and negotiating licensing and master service agreements for both providers and users of cloud-based technology and technology-hosting services. He is an experienced litigator in federal and state court, defending and asserting clients’ rights in copyright and trademark infringement disputes, domain name disputes, breach of contract, and matters related to unauthorized access to computer systems and communications.

Brown received a J.D. from University of Denver College of Law and a B.A. from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN.
