LifeNet Health Successfully Defends Patent, Wins $34.7M Verdict

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

A Virginia federal jury awarded LifeNet Health® $34.7 million in damages on Tuesday for LifeCell® Corp.'s infringement of a LifeNet Health patent related to improving the preservation of tissue grafts, and rejected LifeCell's assertions that the patent was invalid. LifeNet Health's patent relates to enabling tissue grafts to be "ready to use" and stored at room temperature while maintaining normal texture and lowering the chance of graft failure.

The jury found that LifeCell's AlloDerm® Ready to Use Regenerative Tissue Matrix and Strattice™ skin graft products infringed all seven asserted claims of LifeNet Health's patent. The LifeCell products are typically used in abdominal wall repair, breast reconstruction and for orthopedic surgical procedures.

Douglas B. Wilson, LifeNet Health's Executive Vice President explained "We're happy to have the jury recognize the value of LifeNet Health's technology and look forward to development of future technologies that help further its goals of saving lives and restoring health."
