Steptoe Continues Expansion of IP Practice in New York with Vishal Gupta

Steptoe & Johnson LLP is pleased to announce that patent litigator Vishal Gupta has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner. Mr. Gupta’s arrival continues the expansion of Steptoe’s intellectual property practice in New York, which added a team led by John Molenda, who co-chairs the firm’s Healthcare & Life Sciences IP industry team.
Mr. Gupta has litigated complex patent litigation cases from pre-suit investigations through multiple trials and appeals. He also has extensive experience in patent-related transactions and strategic counseling. Mr. Gupta’s practice has embraced a wide range of technologies including pharmaceutical compounds and formulations, manufacturing processes, medical devices, and electromechanical apparatus.
“Vish brings a strong technical background and excellent credentials for our growing pharmaceutical, biosimilars, and medical device patent litigation practice,” said Steptoe Chair Phil West. “Along with his experience handling Hatch-Waxman cases, Vish’s biomedical and chemical engineering background will benefit clients on their inter partes review cases.”

Mr. Gupta earned his law degree from the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. Prior to practicing law, he formulated pharmaceuticals for Massachusetts General Hospital and conducted research in the field of cardiac transplantation at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Mr. Gupta received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s in chemical/biomedical engineering from Cooper Union, where he was an Enders Fellow.
For the past two years, Mr. Gupta has been selected by New York Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Intellectual Property Litigation. He also has been recognized by the International Who’s Who of Life Science Lawyers.
