Personal Audio Settles with Coby Electronics and Archos in Patent Litigation
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Minneapolis, MN -- Personal Audio LLC announces a settlement with Coby Electronics, Corp., and Archos, Inc. in a patent infringement suit in which Apple, Inc. and Sirius XM Radio, Inc. remain defendants. The suit, filed in June 2009 the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, claims that MP3 players made and sold by Apple and the other technology companies violate two patents, U.S. Patent Numbers 6,199,076 and 7,509,178, which are owned by Personal Audio and relate to audio playback technology.
“Coby and Archos have entered into a confidential settlement with Personal Audio, and will avoid further legal pursuit regarding infringement of these patents. We are confident that the suit against Apple and Sirius will proceed, and we look forward to demonstrating in court that these two patents are being violated,” said Ronald J. Schutz, who represents Personal Audio and is chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation and Licensing Practice Group at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P.
