Tuesday, November 16, 2010
Boston, MA -- Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks, P.C., a Boston intellectual property law firm, hired Jennifer J. Wang and Daryl Achilles, Ph.D., as technology specialists.
Wang assists the firm’s attorneys with patent applications in the areas of mechanical and medical devices. She was a mechanical engineering intern at Abiomed, Inc., where she designed and tested prototypes of cardiac-assist devices.
She received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in biomechanics at Brown University. Wang is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association.
Achilles assists the firm’s attorneys with patent applications in the areas of lasers, optical devices, software, and electronics.
He was previously a science advisor at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P., where he assisted attorneys with technical matters that arise in complex patent litigation. Before that, he was a research associate at MagiQ Technologies, a Boston company focusing on commercializing and patenting novel fiber-optical technologies.
Achilles is an expert on quantum optical phenomena in fiber optics and waveguide devices, concentrating on quantum information and quantum optics. He has worked with ultrafast laser systems, nonlinear optics, acousto-optical devices, waveguides, and light detection at the single-photon level.
Achilles received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association and Boston Bar Association.
Technology specialists are recent graduates from bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs, as well as engineers and scientists who have worked in academia and/or industry. After approximately a year of learning patent practice, they continue to expand their legal skills by working a reduced schedule during the day and attending law school at night.
