Drinker Biddle

Chicago, IL -- Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP today welcomes Kenneth K. Dort as a partner in its Intellectual Property Practice Group in Chicago. A well-known litigator in the information technology and intellectual property arena, Dort was previously a partner at McGuire Woods LLP and boutique Gordon & Glickson LLC in Chicago.

Dort’s practice focuses on data encryption and security, software development and licensing, systems development and integration, trade secret protection, and licensing and protection of patents, copyrights and trademarks. He is an experienced litigator at the trial and appellate levels, handling cases across the country during the past 25 years.

“We are excited to welcome Ken to our IP practice,” said Alfred W. Putnam, Jr., Drinker Biddle’s Chairman. “He is a skilled litigator and business advisor. His particular experience in the data security area gives us significant depth in helping clients address the myriad issues they face in protecting their information.”

Dort joins a national intellectual property practice comprising 75 lawyers, patent agents and science advisors, including a dozen attorneys who focus their practice primarily on information technology, outsourcing, e-commerce, social media and other related matters.

“Clients face an ever-changing environment in the area of information technology, especially data privacy,” said Dort. “Drinker Biddle’s large, national IP practice offers the depth and skill, as well as the value that can help clients successfully achieve their business goals.”

Dort also advises clients on general corporate issues, business strategies, and related areas of information technology and intellectual property law, both nationally and internationally. He is a frequent speaker to business and legal groups, and he is a regular contributor to several publications. His most recent article is “Business-to-Business Data Breaches: Prevention, Immediate Actions and Remedies” in the Fall 2010 edition of the Review of Banking and Financial Services.

Dort earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and his bachelor’s degree, with distinction and honors, from Stanford University. He is a member of several professional and civic organizations, including the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Technology Law Association. He also is president of the Technology Management Association of Chicago.

Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is a national law firm with 650 lawyers in 12 offices providing client service in areas such as intellectual property, corporate and securities, corporate restructuring, investment management, health care, real estate, environment and energy, employee benefits and executive compensation, commercial litigation, life insurance and annuities, insurance coverage, labor and employment, government and regulatory affairs, communications litigation, products liability and mass tort litigation, and private client services.
