Intellectual Property Litigator Joins McGuireWoods in Chicago

Chicago, IL -- McGuireWoods LLP announced today that Mark Varboncouer has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner with the IP Litigation/Patents Department. He counsels clients on all aspects of intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on federal district court litigation of patent and trade secret cases.
Varboncouer brings to the firm extensive experience in a range of intellectual property issues, as well as licensing, contract, fraud, and tortious interference issues. He also has a depth of experience defending intellectual property rights for technologies, such as organometallic catalysis, bromination processes, magnetics, materials, telecommunications technologies, engine technologies, thin film technologies, genetic engineering technologies, polymer technologies, medical technologies, and electrical and computer-related technologies.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Varboncouer was a partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he worked for 10 years litigating highly complex patent and trade secret cases. Before beginning his legal career, he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois. He worked for nine years in the chemical and petrochemical industries.

Varboncouer graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2000, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Law and Litigation sections of the American Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Licensing Executives Society.
