Buchananís IP Practice Group Deepens Technical and Scientific Experience

Friday, December 17, 2010

Alexandria, VA -- Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney recently added two Ph.D.s —Donald V. Scaltrito, Ph.D., and Nathaniel T. Leachman, Ph.D. —to its bench of technical and scientific professionals, bolstering its ability to predict client needs and provide high-level consultation and client service. Scaltrito joins as a patent agent and Leachman as a technical advisor.

"Dr. Scaltrito's working knowledge will be of immediate benefit to our clients as he prosecutes domestic and international patent applications in a wide range of chemical technologies," remarked Martin Bruehs, shareholder in the IP Practice.

Scaltrito primarily focuses on the representation of high-technology clients in the chemical arts. Prior to joining Buchanan, he was a patent agent for an intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C. and an examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, where he carried out research in physical inorganic chemistry directed to renewable energy.

Leachman's experience includes postdoctoral research in isolating and sequencing HIV quasispecies in geographically distinct populations to determine molecular characteristics of initial infecting viral particles. He earned a B.S. from Davidson College and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis, where he focused on Biochemistry, Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology with a designated emphasis in Biotechnology.

"The IP Practice is excited about these additions to our team. We are uniquely positioned to provide value by offering appropriate solutions to our clients," said Todd Walters, shareholder in the IP Practice and a member of the firm's Executive Management Team.
