Minesoft and RWS Group Announce a Brand New Version of PatBase
Tuesday, December 21, 2010
Minesoft Ltd., one of the most widely recognised and respected names in the patent information field, and RWS Group, one of the world’s leading patent search and translation companies, have released a new version of PatBase, their searchable, full-text, patent family database.
Following a successful preview period, the new version of PatBase was launched on 1st December 2010 and made available to all of the 15,000-plus PatBase users worldwide.
Drawing on invaluable feedback from core users, the Minesoft in-house development and design teams have been working hard to respond to their needs by not only improving the design of the interface but also by incorporating new functionality into the database.
Since it’s inception in 2003, PatBase has been praised for its usability – presenting complex patent information in a clear and accessible way. The new version of PatBase has been designed to enhance the user experience further, by utilising larger, bold fonts in crisp colours and with useful shortcuts strategically placed to give the user quick and easy access to their personal saved items such as saved folders, search histories, or alerts. The new look and layout makes it easier and faster to navigate through the site –with fewer clicks to save searchers valuable time.
Answering the need for sophisticated search tools to enable efficient analysis of full –text and bibliographic data, new search options have been added such as a Search Optimiser to immediately refine a results set, and an improved ‘Advanced Highlighting’ tool that supports truncation and proximity operators in keywords, as well as a ‘Hit Analyser’ that allows users to view the frequency of keywords per publication.
Among the other search capabilities introduced in this new version of PatBase are the extension of Non-Latin search languages to include the increasingly important Korean and Thai languages, a searchable Examples field (useful for chemical patents), and a new graphical ‘Citation Tree’ display to facilitate understanding of backward and forward citation relationships.
Depended on already by many world-leading organisations to deliver the up-to-date, reliable patent information they need, “PatBase is heavily relied upon as a search resource for patent information, used literally 24/7, and we wanted the new design to reflect our wish for the time spent on our system by professionals to be a positive experience,” according to Ian Perriman, spokesperson for Minesoft’s PatBase Design Team.
