Frankfurt Kurnit Law Firm Promotes Four Attorneys to Counsel

We are pleased to announce that Amelia Brankov, Christopher Chase, Nicole Hylandand Michael Schiffer have been promoted to Counsel.
Amelia K. Brankov is counsel to the Litigation Group and Art Law Group, focusing on commercial dispute resolution, intellectual property law and art law. Her clients include businesses and individuals in the advertising, art, entertainment, and publishing fields. Ms. Brankov is a member of the Committee on Fine Arts of the New York State Bar Association's Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section, Media Law Resource Center's Litigation Committee, New York City Bar’s Women in the Courts Task Force and the Acquisitions Committee of the Guggenheim Museum’s Young Collectors Council. She also serves as an arbitrator in New York City Civil Court matters and is a mediator. Ms. Brankov received her JD with honors from the University of Texas School of Law (2002), where she was a member of the Texas Law Review and Order of the Coif. She also has an LLM degree with first-class distinction from the University of Cambridge, Clare Hall (2006).
Christopher R. Chase is counsel to the Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations Group, and Trademark Group, where he practices intellectual property, advertising, and entertainment law. He counsels individuals and entities in the advertising, entertainment, and sports industries on all aspects of their businesses, including rights clearance (such as copyright, trademark, and rights of publicity), regulatory matters, and risk assessment. His diversified practice includes structuring and negotiating creative services agreements, commercial production agreements, brand and celebrity licensing agreements, sponsorship and event promotion agreements, celebrity talent and on-camera agreements, content releases and licenses, and music licenses. He also counsels numerous clients in the sports industry, including both sponsors and properties in connection with the structuring and negotiation of sponsorship and endorsement agreements. Mr. Chase is a member of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, the Sports Lawyers Association, the International Trademark Association, and the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. Mr. Chase received his JD with high honors from Catholic University of America (2002), where he was an executive editor of the Catholic University Law Review, and received his BA from The University of North Carolina (1999). He is also an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law, and Parsons the New School of Design.
Nicole Hyland is counsel to the Litigation Group and Professional Responsibility Group. She handles a variety of cases, including legal ethics and malpractice matters, entertainment industry disputes, intellectual property cases, commercial business and contract disputes, and securities lawsuits and arbitrations. Ms. Hyland counsels lawyers and law firms on their professional responsibilities and represents defendants and plaintiffs in legal malpractice cases. She regularly conducts CLE presentations on legal ethics and professional responsibility. Ms. Hyland is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and serves on the Ethics Committee for the New York City Bar Association. She is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and the New York Women’s Bar Association. Ms. Hyland graduated with honors from Fordham University School of Law (2002, Cum Laude, Order of the Coif).
Michael Schiffer is counsel to the Advertising, Marketing, and Public Relations Group, and Licensing Group, focusing on intellectual property and advertising matters. Mr. Schiffer’s wide-ranging practice encompasses trademark and copyright law, IP and music licensing, agency and talent agreements, branded entertainment arrangements, sweepstakes and contests, network clearance and copy review. He was named a 2011 “Rising Star” by Law and Politics Magazine. Mr. Schiffer works with advertisers, agencies, direct marketers, photographers and videographers – helping them navigate a complex regulatory landscape and protect their rights. Mr. Schiffer drafts and negotiates traditional and interactive agency agreements for agencies and brands, including financial services companies, health care providers and retailers. He drafts and negotiates endorsement and promotional agreements for renowned artists and celebrities, and advises individual and corporate clients on how to secure and manage trademark rights. His day-to-day practice includes copy review and advice to clients undertaking radio, television, print, industrial, Internet, and new media campaigns and promotions. Mr. Schiffer is a graduate of Boston College Law School (JD, cum laude, 2004) and Cornell University (BA, distinction in all subjects, 1999).
