Oblon Spivak Partner Selected for Pasquale J. Federico Memorial Award

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P. is pleased to announce that Stephen Kunin has been selected for the 2012 Pasquale J. Federico Memorial Award from the Patent & Trademark Office (PTO) Society. The Society established the Pasquale J. Federico Memorial Award to recognize outstanding contributions to the Patent and Trademark Systems of the United States of America.

Mr. Kunin is the firm’s General Counsel and a member of its Management Committee. He chairs the firm’s Contested Proceedings Committee and General Counsel Committee. He also serves as an expert witness and consultant on patent policy, practice and procedure. With more than three decades of experience within the USPTO, Mr. Kunin, as the former Deputy Commissioner for Patent Examination Policy, was responsible for promulgating many of the rules with which his clients must now comply, making him a highly sought-after patent consultant and authority on the Office’s inner workings. Companies and law firms seek out his expertise when faced with complex patent policy matters, such as when requesting Congress to change patent laws or the USPTO to change patent rules.

In 1993, the PTO Society established the Pasquale J. Federico Memorial Award to honor the man who worked at the PTO in several capacities, including Division Chief, for more than 50 years. Mr. Federico wrote the first draft of the 1952 Patent Act and is credited for getting the 1952 Patent Act through Congress and enacted into law.

Assisting clients for more than 40 years, Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier& Neustadt, L.L.P. is one of the largest intellectual property specialty firms in the United States. The firm provides a full range of intellectual property services, including litigation matters in all courts, as well as trademark, copyright and patent interference services.
