Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced today that Stephen Baskin has joined the firm in Washington, DC as a partner in the Intellectual Property practice. He joins from Kilpatrick Townsend, where he focused primarily on patent litigation and was also managing partner of that firm’s Washington, DC office.

For almost 20 years, Mr. Baskin has led and first chaired numerous high-profile patent litigations. He has extensive experience representing a wide variety of companies in patent disputes, from large multinational corporations to small technology and start-up companies and various other entities. He is regularly involved in representing companies in disputes related to electrical, computer software, telecommunications, mechanical and business method patents.

“Steve is a highly-regarded patent litigator with a well-established reputation for handling complex cases, and his proven managerial talents will further strengthen our patent litigation capabilities in Washington, DC and beyond,” said Alan Grimaldi, co-leader of the firm’s global Intellectual Property practice.

“Our practice has grown dramatically in recent years, particularly in the technology and life sciences industries, through the addition of leading lawyers, such as Steve, who have the requisite technical expertise to meet our clients’ needs,” added John Mancini, co-leader of the firm’s global Intellectual Property practice.

Mr. Baskin also has extensive experience representing financial services, software and technology companies in other complex litigation, including the enforcement of trade secrets and non-competition agreements, high stakes complex business litigation, and managing internal corporate investigations.

“Mayer Brown’s strong reputation for handling high-level patent litigations, combined with its top-notch talent, global platform and capabilities in a broad range of practice areas, was especially appealing to me,” said Mr. Baskin.

As an active member of his community, Mr. Baskin chairs the corporate executive council for the American Cancer Society and serves as a board of director for Thanks USA and DC Appleseed.
