Valorem Law Group Acquires Confluence Law Partners

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Alternative Fee Litigation Firms Combine Offices

Chicago-based Valorem Law Group is pleased to announce a merger with Confluence Law Partners, a Silicon Valley intellectual property firm. The merger brings Confluence Founder and veteran patent litigation trial attorney Dave Bohrer’s extensive background representing companies such as Avery Dennison, Plantronics and KLA-Tencor to Valorem. Bohrer is joining veteran patent litigation trial attorneys Manotti Jenkins and Marty LeFevour, who also previously served as Chief Patent Counsel for endovascular products company ev3.

The combination of these two firms will bring together top intellectual property and patent litigation attorneys in the country, allowing both firms to expand their established alternative fee based intellectual property practices to areas like Silicon Valley and Chicago where patent litigation in particular is burgeoning.

One of the founders of Valorem Law Group, Patrick Lamb, explains, “The ever expanding growth in patent litigation, particularly between operating companies (for example the recent spate of patent litigation between Google/Motorola and Apple, Oracle and Google, HP and Oracle, and Samsung and Apple) at costs 60 percent higher on average than other types of litigation cries out for a legal services delivery model providing higher quality patent trial talent at lower, predictable prices than is currently available through traditional firms.”

The merger, according to Lamb, significantly enhances the ability of Valorem to address this long-felt need in the active technology markets of Silicon Valley, Chicago and other similar technology centers across the country. “We were pioneers of the concept of using alternative fees in the field of law, but patent litigation is one area where there has not been a great deal of movement in that regard. Dave joining our team will help us change that,” adds Lamb.

Confluence, in the past, has scaled with customized talent drawn from other law firms. The merger with Valorem brings more of the requisite legal services talent under one roof, allowing the combined firm to deliver legal services more efficiently and at lower costs to their clients.

“We strive to offer legal services that enhance our client’s leadership in their areas of business,” says Attorney Dave Bohrer. “By joining a nationally recognized leader in alternative fee litigation and gaining access to Valorem’s skilled, experienced patent litigation leadership in litigation pricing, we can better realize this vision.”
