BakerHostetler and Woodcock Washburn Complete Strategic Combination

Thursday, January 02, 2014

BakerHostetler announced that it has closed its combination with leading intellectual property law firm Woodcock Washburn following the unanimous approval of the partnerships of both firms. The combination took effect January 1.

With the addition of Woodcock Washburn’s 68 lawyers, BakerHostetler doubles its current IP practice to nearly 140 lawyers, including more than 100 registered patent attorneys and agents. The combination enhances the firm’s ability to help clients maximize the value of their intellectual property through high-level IP counsel, including patent prosecution, litigation and IP transactions for leading technology companies and patent-rich universities and research institutions.

BakerHostetler now has nearly 900 attorneys and the combination adds three new offices – Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Seattle – bringing to 14 the number of offices the firm maintains across the country. The combination affirms IP among BakerHostetler’s nationally recognized litigation, business, tax, and employment practices.

The combination was first announced last November 22. See press release here.

“We are pleased at how seamlessly our two firms came together to complete our combination, and excited by the substantial range of scientific and technology knowledge and experience that Woodcock Washburn has collectively brought into the firm,” said BakerHostetler Chairman Steven Kestner. “The combination will also help us better serve clients in several key markets nationally.”
