Patent Litigator Tiffany Cunningham Brings Additional Depth and Experience to Local and National Practice
Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Tiffany Cunningham has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner in the firm’s Patent Litigation practice. Cunningham was most recently a partner with Kirkland & Ellis. Over the last year, eight IP attorneys have joined the firm’s Chicago office, including patent litigators Mike Osterhoff, Adam Marchuk and Heather Boice, and most recently, Mark T. Smith, a former clerk to the Honorable Sara Darrow of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois and associate with Cooley in Palo Alto, CA, whose patent litigation experience covers a variety of technologies, including optics.
“Our IP practice in Chicago has experienced tremendous growth over the last year, and Tiffany is an outstanding addition,” said Chris Wilson, Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Chicago office. “Her experience and accomplishments are terrific complements to our leading local and national IP practice. Her sterling credentials will allow her to offer tremendous value to our patent litigation clients, and we are delighted to welcome her to the team.”
Cunningham’s experience includes defending a leading smartphone maker that resulted in one of the top defense verdicts in California in 2012, as well as successfully handling key patent cases for other leading companies across industries. Cunningham has experience in federal district court venues nationwide, the Federal Circuit, and the ITC. Her cases have involved a wide variety of industries and technologies, including the chemical, pharmaceutical and automotive industries; biotechnology; computer science and mechanical engineering. She is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
“I am excited to join such a talented group of litigators,” said Cunningham. “Perkins Coie’s patent litigation group has an elite and well-deserved reputation, and I look forward to using my experience to help its clients successfully manage their most difficult patent matters.”
Cunningham received her J.D. from Harvard Law School (where she served as a member of the Board of Student Advisers and taught legal writing) and earned an S.B. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she was a member of both the Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi honor societies. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Timothy B. Dyk of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Cunningham is listed as a “Rising Star” in Illinois Super Lawyers; the National Diversity Council recognized her in 2010 as one of the “Most Powerful and Influential Women in Illinois;” and she was featured in the Third and Fourth Edition of Who’s Who in Black Chicago.
