Jennifer Mikulina Appointed New Head of Trademark Practice

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced that it has named partner Jennifer M. Mikulina as head of the Firm’s global trademark prosecution practice, effective February 1, 2014. Ms. Mikulina, Chicago-based partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Prosecution, Transactions & Strategy Practice Group, will focus on driving continued growth for the Firm in this key area.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jen into this important role as we seek to protect what are often our clients’ most prized assets around the world: their brand name, identity and reputation,” said Mark J. Itri, international head of McDermott’s IP Prosecution, Transactions & Strategy Practice Group. “Jen has long been a key member of the trademark team and has held Firm leadership roles, making her very well-suited for this position.”

Ms. Mikulina, who has been with McDermott since 2001, is currently vice-chair of the Firm’s Gender Diversity Committee and has served as chair of the Pro Bono & Community Service Committee for McDermott’s Chicago office. She is a member of the International Trademark Association (“INTA”) and an active participant on INTA’s Pro Bono Committee. Ms. Mikulina served on the Editorial Board of the American Bar Association’s Annual Review of Intellectual Property Law Developments for three years, including as Lead Editor for the Trademark Chapter in 2011. She is a member of the Board of Directors for WITS (Working in the Schools) and Lawyers for the Creative Arts. In addition, she received the McDermott Will & Emery Award for Outstanding Commitment and Service to the Community in 2011 (Chicago office) and in 2006 (firmwide). For the past three years, Ms. Mikulina has been ranked in the World Trademark Review1000 as one of the world’s best trademark practitioners, was ranked as a top woman lawyer by Illinois SuperLawyers in 2013 and has been recognized by Illinois SuperLawyers as a “Rising Star” for several consecutive years.

Over the years, McDermott’s trademark group has been consistently recognized as an industry leader, including rankings in Chambers USA, World Trademark Review, Legal 500 and Intellectual Property Today. In November, McDermott was honored by the International Trademark Association (“INTA”) as the sole recipient of its Volunteer Service Award in the “Pro Bono Services Provided by Organizations” category. INTA is a member-based organization that supports and advances trademarks and related intellectual property in order to protect consumers and to promote fair and effective commerce.
