Kilpatrick Townsend Names Mehrnaz Boroumand Smith Managing Partner of San Francisco Office

Ms. Boroumand Smith Becomes First Woman to Lead Firm’s Second Largest Office
Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that it has named Mehrnaz Boroumand Smith the new managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office. Ms. Boroumand Smith, who becomes the first woman to lead the San Francisco office, succeeds Paul Haughey who served as San Francisco’s managing partner for over three years. Mr. Haughey will continue his practice at the firm counseling clients in all facets of intellectual property strategy, primarily in the patent area, with an emphasis on product clearances (right-to-use studies), Inter Partes Review under the America Invents Act, early phase litigation infringement and validity analysis for settlement evaluation, and acquisition due diligence.

Kilpatrick Townsend also announced today that Audra Dial will be the managing partner of the firm’s Atlanta office. Both of Kilpatrick Townsend’s largest offices are now led by women.
Ms. Boroumand Smith focuses her practice on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation matters. Her experience includes representing high technology companies in litigation regarding claims of patent, copyright, and trademark infringement, as well as breach of contract, breach of warranty, fraud, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets. Ms. Boroumand Smith has represented clients in a variety of fields and industries, including software, hardware, semiconductor, IT outsourcing, communications, laser, retail, video gaming, arts and crafts, and toys. She has appeared in federal and state courts and the ITC and is also experienced in arbitration matters. Ms. Boroumand Smith has also defended a number of retail clients in class action litigation.
Ms. Boroumand Smith is an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she has been teaching copyright, trademark and privacy issues in the Internet and Intellectual Property Justice Clinic since spring of 2008. She also serves on the firm’s Diversity Council. Ms. Boroumand Smith was recognized by Super Lawyers Magazine as a Northern California "Super Lawyer" in 2013 and 2014 and as a "Rising Star" the four years immediately preceding.
Ms. Boroumand Smith earned her J.D. from George Washington University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts Political Economies of Industrialized Societies from the University of California, Berkeley.
