Akin Gump Continues Growth in Orange County with Addition of IP Partner Christopher Bright

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Akin Gump has announced that Christopher D. Bright has joined the firm as a partner in its intellectual property practice in the firm’s Irvine, Calif., office. Mr. Bright, an experienced patent litigator, comes to Akin Gump from another international law firm, where he was a partner.

Mr. Bright has extensive experience with complex patent litigation, having successfully tried patent cases in district courts across the country and before the International Trade Commission (ITC). He has also argued before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and served as lead counsel in inter partesreviews before the USPTO.

“The firm has been very successful in bringing top-quality talent into our global IP practice in recent years, and Chris represents a continuation of that trend,” said Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “He also adds depth to our recently opened Orange County office and represents our commitment to continued growth in that market. I am very pleased to welcome Chris to Akin Gump.”

Added Steve Zager, head of Akin Gump’s global IP practice, “I am thrilled that an attorney of Chris’s caliber and skill is joining our team. His experience litigating cases before two of the nation’s top patent law venues—the Eastern District of Texas and the Central District of California—coupled with his success in handling matters before the ITC and USPTO will complement our existing strengths and make him a tremendous asset to our clients, both in Orange County and across the country.”

Mr. Bright has litigated patent cases across a broad array of areas, including the computer network, electrical, mechanical, medical and software arts.

“Akin Gump’s depth of knowledge and skill across its IP team is well known,” said Mr. Bright. “Their impressive bench of patent and trial lawyers, their presence in a crucial cross-border business hub like Orange County and the fact that they’re one of the few global firms with an office in the Eastern District of Texas all demonstrate a commitment to a top-tier IP practice, and I am excited to be a part of that.”
