McAndrews, Held & Malloy Shareholder Nabeela Rasheed, Ph.D., Honored as 2014 Distinguished Intellectual Property Alumna by Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Law Society

Monday, April 14, 2014

McAndrews, Held & Malloy shareholder Nabeela Rasheed, Ph.D., has been selected as the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Intellectual Property Alumna award by the Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Law Society (IPLS). The award is given annually to alumni who have shown extraordinary achievement, outstanding character and continuous service to Chicago-Kent College of Law. Dr. Rasheed earned her J.D. from Chicago-Kent in 2003.

At McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Dr. Rasheed’s practice focuses on the acquisition and enforcement of intellectual property rights. She is the legal counselor of choice for companies seeking to identify, protect and maximize the value of their IP portfolios. Dr. Rasheed also advises clients in the acquisition and protection of intellectual property developed through joint ventures and strategic alliances, and conducts IP due diligence in relation to mergers, acquisitions and other transactions. She has extensive experience with opposition practice in the United States and Europe, and regularly represents clients in patent reexaminations, inter partes reviews and post-grant reviews. In addition, Dr. Rasheed serves as an independent consultant in matters involving inventorship and the prioritization of invention issues.

As generic pharmaceuticals and biosimilars have been subject to increased regulatory and legislative action, Dr. Rasheed has emerged at the forefront of lawyers helping clients address the maze of legal, technical, research and manufacturing issues surrounding biological therapeutics and follow-on biologics. She has also helped businesses ensure compliance with IP-related issues that have arisen following the passage of the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act of 2009 (“BPCIA”).

Currently, Dr. Rasheed serves on the editorial board of Life Sciences IP Review. A passionate advocate for minority and women’s rights, she also holds a position on the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, and is actively involved with AIDS Legal Council of Chicago. Dr. Rasheed also sits on the the Board of Snow City Arts, a charity that provides arts education to hospitalized children.

Dr. Rasheed will receive her recognition during an alumni reception held at Chicago-Kent on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
