Merchant & Gould’s Atlanta Office Adds Wm. ’’Brook’’ Lafferty to Team of Leading Intellectual Property Experts

Merchant & Gould, a leading intellectual property law firm, announced today that attorney Wm. “Brook” Lafferty has joined its Atlanta office.
Lafferty holds a LL.M. in intellectual property, with honors, from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago and a J.D. from Stetson University College of Law, St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was on the Law Review. Lafferty’s practice encompasses patent preparation and prosecution, IP agreement drafting and negotiation, opinions, due diligence investigations, and litigation support with respect to patents, trademarks, trade secrets and trade dress. He specializes in the areas of electrical software, mechanical and licensing. In addition to his legal degrees, he holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California.
Lafferty’s career includes 10 years of experience as in-house legal counsel. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, he was senior counsel of intellectual property at Exide Corporation, a global manufacturer of transportation and industrial batteries. Previously, Lafferty was director of intellectual property, North America, at AGCO Corporation, a global manufacturer and distributor of agricultural vehicles and equipment. He was also associate general patent counsel at Cisco Systems and Scientific-Atlanta.

Lafferty is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, in addition to six other courts with state and federal jurisdictions. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and he is a member of the bar in the states of Georgia, Florida and Illinois.
Before embarking on a career in IP law, Lafferty was a captain in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps; he is a Desert Storm veteran. Married with three children, he lives in Atlanta.
