Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Merchant & Gould, a leading intellectual property law firm, announced today that attorney William (Bill) Fortunato has joined its Knoxville office.

Fortunato recently graduated from the University of Tennessee, from which he received Juris Doctorate and Masters of Business Administration degrees. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee, where he was part of the Chancellor’s Honors Program.

Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Fortunato worked as a technology transfer graduate assistant at the Y-12 National Security Complex, evaluating employee inventions for patentability and commercial applications and developing forms and procedures for the submission of inventions. He also worked as an associate at Pitts & Lake PC in Knoxville, drafting patent applications and continuations-in-part, responding to office actions during patent prosecution, and researching legal arguments.

“Bill’s expertise in technology, combined with his business and legal background, add to our strengths and will provide real value to our clients,” said Christopher Leonard, Managing Partner for the Knoxville office. “We’re very happy to have him join our legal team in Knoxville.”
